Summary

This 33-minute DVD explains how to analyze time-travel test recordings to obtain the breaker's actual performance values for comparison with the breaker’s specifications.

Training Sessions

  • Time-Travel Recordings – 11 minutes
Identifies the reference lines and traces on a recording from a drop-bar recorder. Identifies the reference lines and traces on a recording from a light-beam recorder. Identifies the reference lines and traces on a recording from a digital timer/analyzer. Briefly describes the performance report from a typical digital timer/analyzer.
  • Electrical Analysis – 6 minutes
Identifies the following electrical (time) characteristics of a breaker from time-travel recordings of the breaker: main contact and resistor contact break times, main contact and resistor contact make times, and contact synchronization.
  • Mechanical Analysis – 8 minutes
Identifies the following mechanical (travel) characteristics of a breaker from time-travel recordings of the breaker: stroke, overtravel, total travel, rebound, and contact wipe.
  • Velocities – 9 minutes
Describes arc zone, average velocity, and instantaneous velocity. Calculates average velocity using a travel trace from a time-travel recording. Determines average velocity using a velocity trace from a time-travel recording.
