Summary

This 55-minute DVD explains how to replace existing line conductors with new conductors. The situation described is one that often occurs when it is necessary to increase the size of the conductors in a line. It demonstrates how to install temporary crossarms, pull and sag the new conductors, parallel them with the existing conductors, and remove the old conductors. The importance of maintaining the proper clearances and the importance of maintaining the integrity of the existing line are explained. Safety is emphasized throughout the unit.

  • Poletop Preparation – 13 minutes Describes a procedure for preparing poletops for a reconductoring job so sufficient clearances are maintained when pulling in new conductors.

  • Installing Pulling Ropes – 8 minutes Describes a procedure for setting up a pulling rig and a tensioner. Describes a procedure for installing pulling ropes.

  • Installing Conductors – 8 minutes Describes a procedure for grounding conductors as they are pulled in. Describes a procedure for installing conductors.

  • Energizing Conductors – 8 minutes Describes a procedure for energizing new conductors. Describes a procedure for transferring the load from an old line to a new line.

  • Removing Conductors – 11 minutes Describes a procedure for isolating and removing conductors.
