Summary

This 56-minute DVD explains how to pull cable in manholes, and how oil-filled metal conduit is monitored and maintained. It describes typical cable-pulling equipment and demonstrates how it is used to pull cable in manholes. Oil-filled metal conduit is described, and the principles of corrosion monitoring are explained. An approach to repair of a leaking oil-filled metal conduit is also presented.

  • Types of Conduit – 9 minutes Identifies the basic types of conduit used in underground T&D systems. Describes the use of direct-buried PVC and fiberglass conduit in URD systems. Describes the basic techniques of conduit assembly.
  • URD Conduit Installation – 6 minutes Describes or demonstrates how to direct-bury PVC conduit in a trench in a URD system.
  • Underground Systems Conduit – 10 minutes Identifies factors that must be considered when conduit is used in an underground system. Describes the built-up method of conduit installation in a concrete envelope. Describes the tier-by-tier method of conduit installation in a concrete envelope.
  • Underground Systems Conduit Installation – 11 minutes Demonstrates the installation of conduit using the built-up and the tier-by-tier method.
  • Oil-Filled Steel Conduit Installation – 10 minutes Identifies the characteristics of oil-filled steel conduit. Describes the installation of a section of oil-filled steel conduit.
  • Corrosion, Temperature Testing, and Repair – 11 minutes Describes how oil-filled metal conduit can be tested for corrosion. Explains how to identify and repair a damaged section of oil-filled metal conduit.
