This 47-minute DVD gives an overview of how transmission and distribution systems deliver power from power plants to customers. It describes the major components of a typical transmission and distribution system, and how electricity flows through these components on its journey from the power plant to the customer.

    Defines the terms: voltage, current, resistance, and power. States the basic function of a power plant. Describes the general characteristics of a typical power plant.
  • Switchyards – 10 minutes
    States the general function of a switchyard. Describes the major components of a typical switchyard. Describes how the electrical flow path through a switchyard can be altered to isolate certain equipment.
  • Transmission Lines – 8 minutes
    Explains the functions of transmission lines in a typical transmission and distribution system. Describes the major components of transmission lines.
  • Substations – 9 minutes
    Explains the function of a substation. Describes the major components of a typical substation. Describes how the electrical flow path through a substation can be altered to isolate certain equipment.
  • Distribution – 7 minutes
    Explains the function of a distribution system. Describes the major components of a distribution system. Explains how electricity travels through a typical distribution system to reach customers.
